Sacos-cama para bebé - Baby sleeping bags : Burdastyle 03/2011, mod. 148

O casal a quem ofereci uma manta em tricot o ano passado vai ter uma menina no outono, pelo que quis contribuir para o enxoval da cria :-)

The couple to whom I gifted the ten stitch blanket last year is having a baby girl in the fall, so I wanted to sew something for the baby girl.

Perguntei à futura mãe se ela preferia um conjunto de lençóis, um saco de cama ou outro coisa qualquer. Ela escolheu o saco-cama, pelo que andei andei à procura na minhas Burdas de um molde para isso. 

I asked the mom-to-be if she prefered bedsheets, sleepingbag or anything else and she chose the sleeping bag. I digged through my Burdastyle magazines and digged up a pattern.

Lá o encontrei na Burda de Março de 2011 (mod. 148), disponível em três tamanhos 56/62, 68/74 e 80/86. 

The pattern was published in March 2011 issue (#148) and one could choose between 3 sizes - 56/62, 68/74 and 80/86. 

                                           

Sou capaz de me ter entusiasmado um pouco com a costura, porque acabei por fazer os 3 tamanhos!

I *might* got a bit overexcited with this sewing project because I ended sewing all 3 sizes!

Os tecidos exteriores são 100% algodão e os forros são em malha polar, malha polar dupla  e flanela de algodão.

The outer fabrics are 100% cotton and linings are made from polar fleece, double face polar fleece and cotton flannel.

Um saco de cama de bebé não é a coisa mais difícil de costurar (são apenas duas peças, cortadas na dobra) mas as instruções da revista deixam algo a desejar no que toca a coser os tecidos ao fecho. Veja-se:

Coser as partes do exterior ao fecho, coser o forro, deixando a abertura para o fecho e depois revirar os valores de costura do forro e coser ao fecho. 

Coser um fecho já com as costuras laterais fechadas só complica o processo. Acabei por coser o saco como de se um estojo se tratasse:

- Alinhavei o tecido exterior e o forro a cada lado da fita do fecho e cosi com o calcador para fechos

- Colocar, direito com direito, as duas partes do exterior para um lado e as duas partes do forro para o outro e coser cada conjunto.

A baby sleeping bag is not the hardest thing to sew (there are just 2 pieces, cut in the fold) but the sewing instructions aren't the best IMHO as it say to sew the outer pieces to the zipper tape, sew the lining leaving open the zipper opening and then sew the lining to the zipper tape after turning in the SA.

Putting in a zipper with the side seams only makes this task harder, so I sew the sleeping bag like one sews a pencil pouch : baste the outer fabric and lining to the zipper tape and sew, put outer fabric with right sides together to a side and the lining parts to another and sew each set.

Outra questão que não me parece a mais adequada é o remate da parte superior dos sacos. As instruções dizem para cortar uma tira de tecido no sentido do fio e não em viés.

I also don't agree with the way the binding of the sleeping bag is set. Per instructions, one cuts a strip of fabric on the grain, not on the bias. This causes the fabric to ripple when it's sewed because the fabric doesn't have enough stretch to accommodate curves.

Ora, isto faz com que debruar as zonas arredondadas seja muito difícil, pois o tecido não tem elasticidade suficiente para se adaptar às curvas e começa a arrepelar. Na minha opinião, o melhor a fazer a utilizar uma fita cortada em viés. Eu não fiz porque já não tinha tecido suficiente para cortar as tiras de que necessitava e vi-me grega para assentar o remate. No entanto, com o vapor do ferro, consegui um bom acabamento.

I didn't have enough fabric to cut bias strips of fabric, so it was very hard to sew the binding. In the end, with lots of steam I managed to tame the binding.

Apesar destas contrariedades, estou contente com o resultado e penso que a futura mãe também o irá ficar.

Even with these 'hiccups', I'm very happy with my sleeping bags and I think the mom-to-be will also love them.

Encomendei um postal personalizado a uma amiga para enviar juntamente com os sacos-cama e acho que ela acertou em cheio. Que dizem?
